M3 cold air intake

Hey so i bought an AFE ram air intake for my 99 m3, it has the heat shield to keep the hot engine air away from the filter, however it cant really pull cold air from anywhere. The stock air box has a duct that routes behind the grill pulling in fresh air. I don't want to go back to stock, but I need to find a way to get cold air to that intake without mangling the product. Please respond with suggestions
