M3 6 speed Manual VS M3 SMG auto tranny

I'm looking to upgrade to a 2002 - 2005 M3 six speed. However, I have run into a lot of M3's with an SMG auto/manual transmission.

Any comments (good or bad) about the SMG tranny?

Thanks everyone!

I would never buy an ///M3 with anything but a 6 speed, stick shift transmission. It would defeat the purpose and joy of having it to have an automatic, including an SMG. Iv heard lousy things about the SMG tranny and would avoid it for poor driveability. The new dual clutch tranny (DCT) is far better, but even that I personally wouldn't want. In your situation , I'd go for as late a model E46 as I could find and afford in a 6 speed and go enjoy it!

RoadMaster Madness...

Thank you for confirming my original thoughts! I just needed a confirmation from an experienced E46/M3 owner.

Nice rides by the way... after I buy my Black/Carbon Black M3 6 speed E46, My wife wants me to get her a Z3-4. LOL
