No 3 series ever came out with an "///M" version that wasn't an M3. Those badges only appeared on E34 ///M540's and ///M635csi's.
I believe what is refered to as M-tec package is just the front and rear M3 bumpers, M3 side skirts and perhaps the M3 rear wing. In Germany they have M-TEC suspension, but I don't think they have those here. They just have the sport packages which came on all coupe models. Either way, the M-TEC and non M-TEC were not badged differently, so there was no way to tell except for the slightly lower ride height.
The M-TEC suspension packages came with M-TEC SACHS Boge Pro Gas dampers and M-TEC springs. Again, only available in Germany. Sport package also includes some stiffer (larger diameter) sway bars.

I even had the stealship run the VIN to make sure someone hadn't done it aftermarket

i was just wondering, didn't know for sure, and no i wasn't saying that the m moldings were only on m3's, i'm getting very confused
