Hi Guys,
I've recently changed my oil and noticed that my 93 325i runs significantly quieter after an oil change. I don't go much over 3000 miles (maybe 100 miles) between oil changes. I think that i will now start doing my oil changes every 1500 miles or something more like that. i was just wondering what this might be an indication of. Thanks!
Ramy

Hmmm could be engine wear. You could also have a problem with something diluting your oil over time. What condition is the oil in when it comes out?

I noticed that the oil is a little less viscous. Darker for sure but it also seems to flow a lot easier. I've switched to Exxon quarts of oil. I'll be upgrading the oil filter to a Mann from an STP (which by the way didn't fit in the filter canister. I had to tighten the lid quite a bit and that crushed the filter just a bit). I'll aslo be upgrading to a K&N air filter.
otherwise, the oil is in good shape. There's no sign that any coolant is leaking in or anything like that.

dude, get ther right filter. If it didnt fit you shouldnt have used it. Also i dont know much about the quality of Exxon oil's but i would recommend u use mobil one, or another respectable brand from now on. what weight oil are you using?

it was the right filter according to the filter book at autozone. It's an STP filter. It's not as thought the filter was so crushed it wasn't able to filter anymore. It was probably about a full centimeter too tall and therefore crushed as much.

I'm using SAE 20 W 50 motor oil.

I respect your opinion about which motor oil to use, but I honestly don't want to debate which oil to use or not to use. It's utterly a matter of opinion that could go back and forth with no end. So, let's just skip that and assume that oil is oil.

EDIT: By the way, Exxon and Mobile are both the same company (they used to be under John D. Rockafeller, were split up, and are now Exxon Mobile)
