Looking to buy a 3-series

I currently have a Mazda RX-7 and a Nissan 240sx. I am looking to trade the 240 in on a BMW and am hopefully going to check out a '98 318i tomorrow.

The car is black on black leather, 5-speed, sunroof, 81k miles. Price is $8995. This seems fair to me and is under KBB value.

I'm just looking to get some basic opinions. I assume it's worth taking a look at? Any particular quirks with similar-year 318's I should keep an eye out for?

theres a few minor things, check out the faq section for a list of problems. also the 318 is not going to be powerful since its a 4 cylinder engine. look into 325 or 328 or possibly an m3.

M3 is unfortunately out of my price range.

i always thought thatafter 96 the 318 got replaced by 323....am i worng?

the 318 was replaced by the 323 in 1999 when they released the E46 body style for the coupe/sedan/convertible and then phased out the 318ti hatchback in 00
