Know how you feel man. I go the same problem, tried to post it and got no response. Be advised that the most of the topics will outline the ICV for the M42 engine. We don't have the canister that they got. the best link that you can find is this one for your PISSED OFF! posting:
ALthough I looked at my engine (1997 M44) and the ICV doesn't even look like the one at Real OEM. believe me, you are not alone in this BMW what kind of part I got confusion. I have an electrical fan and even BMW tells me that I have a fan clutch.
Just to give you an example. look at the intake bellows (or maybe called elbows) of your engine. there is one before the maf and after the maf to the throttle body. The M42 engine only has one. So, there are differences that you need to know.
Anyway, it either going to look like the part at the real OEM website or it may be like a box looking kind of sensor. Go to your BMW dealer and ask to see the part.
Hey for you and all the M44 engines outhere. Here is a photo of the ICV from it. it is on the Throttle body right up front. It is the one on the right on the picture.
