Little help needed (URGENTLY) please

Hi ya

Just a quick question really. I will bw greatful for any help thats on offer. I have a 95 318i s. I believe it has the older 1.8 engine in it. Just recently in went in for a suspect head gasket failure :

Not only was my night mare confirmed but added was the fact that there is a dirty great big crack in the head!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After alot of searching it seems another complete lump is the way forward? I've been offered a 1.9 engine (newer engine). Will this engine go in ok? Will it run off the current ECU? Is it likely to cause any probs.

depends on which year.. if its newer than 1996, than you have to get someone to make the obd2 to work on your old obd1 system , if its pre 1996 than you should be ok and shouldnt have any problems, see if the guy selling the engine has the ECU for sale too, than in that case you will probably be ok to run , once you bypass the EWS system

hmm i just thought of something.............that im not totally sure now, because im not very smart with those 318's.

And in Europe we don't have the OBDI and OBDII thing I believe....... It seems like Eug is from England

Hmm.. I thought we did? I can't check because both of my bimmers are pre '96...

But if the US spec 318is's have the same engines as in Europe, don't go for the 1.9 M44. It drinks more, and is a slower engine..

Same, and only 4cyl used in the Z3, as far as I know

Firstly....Just like to say thanks so much for the rapid responses. Yes Im from the UK.

An Update if your interested, the garagre got hold of another lump, the one I needed so with any luck the 'pimpin' beemer will be back for the weekend!!!!
