I have a 1996 318i, 5 spd (Canadian model)
I'd like to know if it has a limited slip differential.
I have read the glove box manual and have found nothing to tell me.
Is there an area on the car that will tell me this?
usually there will be a tag on the back that says it. I dont have limited slip, so I am unsure what it looks like, but in the lube shop I worked at...most all Limited slip rear diff's had tags on the back that said so.
Im not sure when the LSD became standard on the e36, but 1996 would probably have been it, since it was when most of the changes were made. The easiest way to tell is go do a burnout. If you leave two tires marks, then you have LSD. If you only leave one, then you have an open diff like the previous models.
