Limited Slip Differential? - BMW Forum

The title/subtitle say it all. I've a '93 318is, and heard that some models came with an LSD. How do I tell if mine has one?

My dad said the VIN might hold a clue, but I don't know how to decode it.

Thanks for any ideas.

Thats a good question. I've got a 92 318is and I would like to know if mine has an LSD as well.

I know it has the independent rear suspension, because I can see that. However, I'm confused on the LSD.

to tell if you have a lsd, the only way i know how to do it is to put your car on a lift (or anyway you can get both rear tires off the ground) then spin one of the wheels. If the other wheel (the one your not physically spinning) spins in the opposite direction, you don't have limited slip. If the other wheel spins the same direction as the one your spinning, you do have limited slip.
