Lights behind the climate controls

Yesterday, the lights behind the climate controls in my 1997 318ti burnt out. Specifically, I am referring to the amber lights behind the fan selector, the temperature selctor and the selector for defrost/panel/floor settings. All other lights on the dash work. Do I need to remove the entire dash to get at these lights - or is there an easier method? I look forward to someone's comments on this subject.

your gonna have to pop out the controls. and yes you have to pop some of the dash to do so.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give this a try later and let you know how it all turns out. I'm new to this board and am glad to see that posts occur frequently and quickly.

the lights behind my climate contols.......yet another little thing i need to take care of in my '96 ti. ill hafta get on that.

the others on the list - airbag light, crappy re-dye job on front seat, 2 jacked up bmw logos, a few dings and scratches,.... im just waitin for it to start to rust around the cali. top. which its not....yet

my mistake i forgot to tell you that no pannels will come out, i was thinking a different model. to change light bulbs behind, remove all dials, and thenremove two screws located behind the two big dials. take face off and replace bulbs. (however im not sure if 1996 was dial or digital)
