Hey guys
I talked about my oil leak about 2 months ago and i kinda found it, but its on a weird spot, not on oil pan gasket or any engine block gasket (the leak is right next to the oil filter) but is not precisely there

(its kinda weird)

Well im posting a sample pic (not my car, my engine is cleaner) of where the leak is. If anybody experieced this leak on this spot, and fixed it, please let me know.

Also, if for some reason, the leak is coming from the oil filter (if the housing is misplaced or cracked) can I remove it and inspect it without draining the oil from the engine (if i remove it, will it spill oil?)

I would appreciate any help.

Aight... you should see a bolt on top of the oil its a small mm type..... that has a crush washer between the housings lid and the bolt that extends down through the filter....

There is also a rubber seal that is placed on the lip surounding...

Either on of those could have been skiped in the last oil change... and become a problem.

Take a look.. just undo the bolt.. and pull up.. and then the lid should come off too...

Well i check that and is ok, filter was installed correctly.
It seems like the leak is underneath the oil filter housing, is there some type of gasket or something underneath the filter? and is there a way to remove the housing so i could inspect the leak?

so you know, there has been cases on which the oil filter housing leaks from behing on some metal fabrication seals, pretty much what happens is that it starts to leak on the rear of the housing, and the only way to fix it is to get new housing and gastket..

do a search on google, somehting like e36 oil housing leak, something like, let us know.

I just had my machanic do the water pump belts pulleys etc and he found my oil leak aound the oil filter can also. He replace the O rings on it and one of the hoses between the engine and the can. It was leaking from the metal link (looks like a battery cable that goes over the terminal) where it was crimped onto the hose. No leaks in a week. It was about a $30 part. I know I still need to do the V/C gasket but I was glad that it was fixed.
