knock sensor

Hey haven't been on here for a while, that's a good and bad thing..well good meaning my car was doing well and i've been busy, but bad now that I need some help with my car.

Here we go:

I have a 1993 bmw 325is, just purchased 2 knock sensors at $59 bucks a pop and a new exhaust for $145..now the problem is how do I put in knock sensors? I can kinda see them right behind oil filter and under the engine cover hood. What is the best way to install them? any help would be much obliged. Also what mpg do you guys normally get with the 93 325is? I'm at like 16.6, manual trans..I think it used to be at 21. So i heard the knock sensors might have to do with that? Car sputters all the time and has a lack of power, i hope changing the sensors will help.

car sputtering, low mpg, loss of power, all three of those symptoms can be completely different problems...ok knock sensors
-page 120-7 of bentley manual ( sorry, non-vanos 325's didnt come with knocks so ima give it to u str8 from the book)

on 6 cylinder engines, the knock sensors are accessible after removing the intake manifold.

16.6? Wow... that seems really low - unless you're not in the US?

I'm getting around 28-30 highway miles in my 1995 325is - I've never seen the mileage drop below 26.

yea, it's horrible, I just got a new muffler and 2 new knock sensors, just gotta find out how to get them in. I have to take the intake manifold off to get to the sensors?? I heard that it's easier to go above the car instead of underneath, But since I'm gonna be replacing the muffler I will probably end up goin underneath if it's alot easier
