Where can I get a spare key cut for my 1997 328IC without paying the crazy dealer prices

Sorry, but as far as I know, the dealer is the place to go. SOmetimes it is a necessary evil. Even if you get the laser cut done properly, you still need the dealer to program the key (that is, if they cooperate), which will not be free.

Dealer prices for E36 keys aren't too bad. I paid about $35 for a key for my 328i. It was the non-lighted version -- seriously, why do you need the light on your key?

i went to a dealership and they claimed that it was upwards of a 150$.. = ( needless to say I still only have 1 key haha .

What key was it for? The lighted key? The key fob with the handsfree lock/unlock?

I am talking about the regular, plain key. Starts teh car and opens the trunk and glove compartment.

I bought a lighted key from the dealer, it was $75. It's the only place that I know of where you can get one.

Cost was $82.19 from Bill Pearce for just the key. Had no option but to go to the dealer, it takes 2 days. I guess its still cheaper than loosing your only key.

They wanted another $150 for the remote, I can do with out that!

That sounds about right for an E46 key with the integrated remote.

I wonder if the OP ended up getting a new key.
