I put an m3 exhaust on my 92 325i and didn't notice a performance gain, but the I really like the sound that it gave my car. It definatly sounds different then when it is used on the 3.0 or 3.2 engines. On the 2.5 it makes it sound nice and throaty and great in high rpm range too.

you shouldn't feel much of a gain... but there IS a slight performance difference between the stock 325is exhaust and M3 exhaust... the reason why you can't feel the difference is because.. well.. basically because it's another stock exhaust system.. hope this helps!! =)
basically i wanted an exhaust for my car, i dint want to spend 1000 bucks so i bought a used m3 for 200 that looks like its in real good condition and a obx header also for 200 bucks
When I got my M3 exhaust I was told that I was looking at gains of 5hp and 5ftlb.
I don't know if this is true but I did feel a little difference (maybe it was all in my head). One thing is for sure though, when I turn on my AC the car runs alot smoother.
The sound is also great, nice tone but not too loud.
