BMw sells a repair clip for that.
The metal clip attached on the door are supposed to slide into a hole on the back of the door panel, but because the door panel is made of such crappy material, its wood and glue.... the holes break. the clip that BMW sells slides on top of the hole and reinforces it.
And this you can only get it at the dealer///
if needed ill send you the bmw repair bulleting on this issue.

thats very helpful victor. but i some of us might have a 2 door coupe, can you give me the link where you found this or can you post the 2 door info if you have it? -Thanks
I drive an IS and the passanger side door did that same thing. I just used my palm and snapped it back into place (I had asked a mechanic before I did that, apparently it just happens sometimes.)

Thanks so much for this post! I have that problem with the top part of my door panel. the holes are broken so the metal clip doesn't hold anything. I was about to glue my door panel on as I am so sick of it popping off everytime I close the door. I will give this a try.
it seems to happen more with IS cars over i's not saying it wont happen, anyways on my 318 it happened a few times ibought new clips and a new door handle bracket pushed it all back together (oh yeah i glued part of the door card back to the other part of the door card, because i didnt have the door handle clip in for a while so it started to seperate
