for the past week, i've been flying high after getting my '92 325is. She's beautiful. I spent a full 3 days following her arrival doing a full and i mean FULL detail on EVERYTHING. Got through my first tank of gas rather quickly
but i got that outta my system and it all was evening out.
Had a talk w/ the rents yesterday about insurance and i've been knocked back because of the jump in insurance. According to the insurance people and just because "its a BMW" the insurance is INCREASING by almot 1200 per six months! this is crazy. i used to drive a '93 Volvo 850 and had an accident several months ago. The volvo was nowhere NEAR what they want now. We chose to total the volvo cause after getting it for relatively cheap, the repairs soared above what we had paid for the thing. i am 17 now and that mishap is the only spot (more like a dark patch) on my record. The lady told my mother the increase was simply because "it is a BMW" and i guess she explained that they were more to insure ... blah blah. n
Surely this is not my only option??? please! i know i've read other insurance costs in previous posts of MUCH lower costs, etc. Is this simply because i'm 17 w/ a recent accident? i would much rather be beaten down by that rather than bmw's being too expensive.
sorry for the vent, but also, any suggestions? i'm on a crusade now to really find out if this is the way it must be. If it is ... so be it because i'm in love w/ my ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHING. i just may have to turn into the "ultimate working maching" to pay my insurance.

my insurance is quite a lot these days, im a 6 star rated driver and insurance has steadily increased each passing year. im not too happy about it, but its the price to pay, the other choice is to not drive my car.....which i dont have any plans to do.
thats BS, i dont pay my insurance, but i know some of the figures
im 17, with a spotless record (that the insurance company knows of :P )
i went from a '90 Buick to a 95 BMW, and it only rose about 300 for the year
but it depends on a lot of things, for instance i live in a suburban area, i dont commute to anything, good student discounts, im the 5th insured driver in my family, and we have 6 cars insured.. that probably has a lot to do with it

yeah, this weekend, i'll def. be calling around, but as far a lowering coverage ... that's not really an option. I would like (parents have a HUGE hand in this as well) to keep everything ... full collision, etc.
why can't i live in hickville, population -- 5,000 and get cheap insurance. I bet there are plenty of twisties there ... lol

very true Tmac ... it probobly doesn't help that i'm on my parents plan on which my sister claimed a few (lost count) accidents. My mom's honda + my sister just don't mix.
i never USED to pay insurance ( i know i'm am, er, was a lucky guy) but now i'm gonna have to start worrying about it since my rents got the new figures.
i live in a fairly small-ish town in central pa and just have my one accident, good student discounts, and as soon as i can get my stupid driver to schedule me for .... 6 hours i believe, i'll also have Driver's Ed discount from AAA.
the really odd thing is that my mom didn't seem to think the results of my accident (translation=rates flying high) were even factored into that!

The way I came to understand it, it's not what kind of car so much as that car's insurance saftey rating. My 92' 318 convertible was in the 2K range per six months, it only had one airbag and was not rated well for impact tests. It also had an ABS discount. My new 98' 328 is much less expensive because the E36 is much better rated, it has side and passenger airbags, and the ABS in addition. So with all of that its only like 1.8K. This is through allstate and I have four cars insured, am 16 with good grade discount and driver's ed. I sugguest you shop around for a new insurance company.
"its because its a bmw" sounds like she just doesnt want you to shop around Im sure the recent accident raised the rate as much as changing cars
Always shop around when you get vague answers like that from your agent She should be able to look at your policy and give you specific reasons as to why the rate is higher
If I am ever going to be of any help it is going to be right now!!
Call "Allied Insurance" They are #4 in the nation, yet they are so cheap. My family, of 3, are paying 1000 all together a year for the ford escape and 1500 together for my 95 325is. CALL THEM NOW!!!!
yes just the name BMW can make ur insurance jump, but not that much. an older volvo is probably cheap as hell to insure. and coupling being 17 with getting into an accident = hefty insurance jump
