**Instant Help Required** - 318i Power Issues

Yestrerday, driving after 1000km, lights dimmed, airbag light came up, ABS light flashed, after 10mins the problem went away.

Now tonight battery idicator light showing on cluster.
Not enough power to crank engine.
Replaced battery, battery light still showing, when reving over 4k battery light slowly dims and disappears after 5k RPM.

Is my Altinator gone???
Please Help ASAP.

Your alternator is most likely dying or, from the sound of it, is an ex-alternator.

^^ sounds like the culprit. Get a volt reader and check the voltage that the alternator is putting out. This will tell you for sure. I was able to pick a digital one up for less than $20, it is a handy thing to have around.

Woek up this morning, and drove it to work, the battery light wasn't showing until after 5 k where it became dim.

Ill try getting hold of a new alternator today.

Is it a possible DIY job?

just download the bentley... you can replace it easily...

Dont have any tools where i am atm.

Also Bought another BMW 320i
42,000 K's on it

Not registerable in Australia lmao, unless i take it through a heap of engineer reports.

Plan is to Strip the interior, and make a off road rally car.

Problem is its an auto, which in some ways could be better :P

Thanks for everyones input, i did go with the new alternator ($448au) took it in today, they will try and squeeze the job in, advising 1 hour labour

Had the same problem turned out to be the Altenator.

yes the alternator is gone, the reason the abs light and airbag goes on is because its a failsafe that all cars have when they sense a problem with the charging system. the battery light indicates and solidifies that your problem with the charging system is gonna more than likely gonna be your alternator.
