Installing Aftermarket Radio - BMW Forum

used I was just about to complete a purchase of a headunit at crutchfield and it highly recommended that i got this piece

is this really necessary? I have already have an amp and 2 subs.

No, not at all. SOmeone asked the same question in the audio forums, and I responded with the same.

Some cars need a higher or lower voltage to feed the oem amp's input, the BMW amp works pretty well with most aftermarket head unit's powered outputs. You'll be fine.

i bought it, and it made it sound worse than making a direct connection...

I bought it since crutchfield told me i needed it, and when i was looking around multiple places for install told me i needed it to. I installed myself and it followed the diagram for splicing the wires. It works fine and sounds fine. I never tried it without, so I don't really know if you need it or not. I thought that it may be dependant on a certain year and model but don't really know.
