Information On 1.9ltr Engine

Im in need of a good source of information on a 97 318ti im intersted in buying, Mainly information on The engine and trans, as well as the performance part after market on theese cars, If you have any good links or can tell me all about the 1.9ltr engine... PLEase Do THANX! oh and reading over the forums breifly this seems like a great community.

well first remember it is a 1.9 so wont be the fastest engine out there, but will have the high end of a good car. performance parts are deinfaly way more rare for the 1.8 and 1.9 compared to any of the I6 engines. Umm the engines are built to last if that helps, you will probably get a lot of why not buy a 325 or 328 so ill save that for other members

Even though it is a 1.9 it has the same power as the 1.8 because of more restrictive software. You can swap backwards to the OBDI and gain a bit of power. The are very strong motors though and should last quite a while.

How do you switch to OBD1, how much power gain?

theres a few guys on the forums that have it its called the obd1 conversion, dont know how useful of possible it is in a 318 but i guess its pretty good in the 328s

The conversion would give you a little different and more aggressive power band. This would also allow you to throw a chip into it, which can't be done easily with OBD-II computers. That would give you better power. Only cars before 95 have OBD-I. Its not that cheap of a project...it could cost you a couple Gs...some people have done that on here: Jllphan if I'm not mistaken...

why so expensive, it would only require a computer swap and some other things to fine tune it.

pretty sure it includes a different intake manifold maf sensor etc but im not sure...
