I'm usually the guy cursing those fools driving down the road not watching where they're going....
So there I was, between Houston and San Antonio, cruising along at just under 80...Took my eyes off the road for a sec and WHAP! something hits the underside. Check the mirrors and I see nothing. 100 miles later when we arrive at home I hear something drag on the gravel driveway. I immediately stop and look under and see some "hardware" hanging down. Pull up, unload the car and jack it up to see ?????. Seems some road debris has impaled the fuel tank! Thank God it didn't drag on the interstate and make sparks and ignite the fuel which could have been dribbling out of it. It was sealed off pretty good, so it only leaked fuel when I wiggled it around.

Repaired it today by tapping that nice round "impalement" with a tapered pipe-tap and screwed a tapered nilon plug into it, which sealed it off nicely, then epoxied around the plug with fuel tank repair epoxy. I'm confident that the repair will hold, but will start looking for a fuel tank next week anyway.
