i've got a 96 328i convert. so far all that i have done to it has been changing the intake to a high flow one w/ heatshield, and an ansa cat-back exhaust. Im looking for a way to add power to it, relatively cheaply, and I've been thinking seriously about gutting my cat or getting a test pipe made and put on...does anyone know if that really adds more power or not?
I don't think gutting the CAT is a good idea because of emissions problems. Also I've heard that the back pressure created by the CAT provides better torque, so I'd leave that alone.
Well, you can try a chip, underdrive pullies and or a fan delete mod. Do some searching and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Or if you really have the cash you can do some bigger stuff (OBD conversion, manifold swap, cams, etc.)
Good luck.
Skip gutting the kit, look to add some bolt ons. Most of the aforementioned as well as a cold air induction kit or free flow exhaust will all help your car breathe and ultimately perform better.
