Where did you get the key from?

BMW dealership, the owner said there may be something wrong with the tumbler.

And the key doesnt work in the ignition? What did he say was wrong with the tumbler? Cause if the tumbler is the issue and not the EWS system, then removing the EWS system would be pointless.

The package the key came in has the same VIN number as the car, It just wont turn in the Ignition. He didn't really know the problem, Though it might be the Ignition since it wont turn.

I would start by talking the dealer first. Explain the issue and see if they would be willing to look at it for hopefully no charge.

Ok its a start. But how do you unlock the steering wheel without the key?

Cut a pin inside of it. Which requires removal of the steering wheel.

I'm fixing to buy a complete steering column ,Ingition with EWS system door handles trunk lock and key for $150, out of a 93 325is. It's going into a 94' 318i coupe. I wanted to know before I buy, will it work for my car. because a key alone is $100 compared to all listed above for $150. Need to know if it works.
Just dont want to waste $100 is the Ignition has been switched or broken ect.

With these new door locks and ignition are you getting the keys with them or are you swapping the tumblers?

yeah, and i'm going to buy all listed above for $150, just want to know if the ignition from a 93' 325i sedan would work in my 94' 318i coupe. And will the door handles from a sedan fit in a coupe?

It will fit. This site allows you to cross reference part numbers. In this diagram, #1 is also compatible with a 318i Coupe.

Awesome, It seems like a good deal since a key alone is like $100, and I'm buying a key, complete Steering column, ingition, door handles and, all locks, ect for $150. "And thanks for all the help". On a rate 1-10 how difficult is changing the ingition. And do i need the EWS (or what ever it is) to go with the Ingition? or is mine ok?
