I just switched to synthetic and my cars performance seems to have increased greatly. Before, I would beat my buddies pretty tricked out civic by like 1-2 car lenghts now I smoked him this afternoon by about 3.5 car lenghts (keep in mind he has TONS of mods done to his motor).
Quick question though... what are the downfalls of synthetic oil other then it being more expensive?
Wow, if your car is faster than your buddies because you switched to synthetic oil, you definetly need to get the leather seats upgrade that adds 10hp. You should also get the sticker upgrade for another 25hp.
no you misread it... my car was already faster hands down in a 1/4 mile. What I'm saying is, after I switched it seemed to be a lot faster! Plus I already have the leather sets upgrade and stickers! :P shithead lol
If by "cars performance," you mean how smoothly your motor runs, then yes. However, if by, "cars performance," you mean, "faster car," then you need a new mechanic.
hey now, we all know that vtec stickers alone increase RWHP by 15 atleast, so for synthetic oil to increase ones performance by a good 10 usable horsepower must be true...

finding this forum pretty amusing... thats for the laughs... dude... i don't know about u... but changing your oil make the motor run smoother... and DOES NOT MAKE YOUR CAR FASTER IN ANYWAY... unless u havn't changed your oil in about 3 years... instead of 3 months!!
but it does improve gas mileage. And as all of you know from buying CAI that increased gas mileage and engine performance goes hand in hand.... or that's what the companies tell you...
Synthetic Oil does increase Torque, and therefore BHp in measurable amounts by reducing friction.
Just like that thread about Turbos and Superchargers, there is much personal opinion on this thread, without empirical evidence. Here are some Empirical Dyno Results, if you don't believe me...
Project BMW M3 Part 4: Reducing frictional loses
I couldn't believe driveline fluids alone would add an extra 5.1 hp at the peak value--let alone the extra 8.9 hp gain at 4000 rpm.
Even in Stock Class, There Are Ways to Get an Edge on the Competition
In our BMW 318ti-a car that we had a great deal of trouble extracting more power from-replacing the stock engine oil, tranny fluid and rear end lube with Red Line synthetic products did very little to increase the maximum power output, but it did get us more than five additional horsepower at 4200 rpm-right in the meat of the powerband.
