Idle rough and cruise control won't work? help please - BMW Forum

95 318is, my cruise doesn't work all the time. and idle rough when I put too much load on DC power(for example when i turned on the head light or rear window defogger, idle will get even worst). So I replaced the alternator and the problems was fixed for six month and it happened again. I replaced another alternator and a new battery, but still can't fix the problems. I checked the error code and got the code 1286 so i changed two of the knock sensors but still cruise doesn't work and idle rough. I checked all the fuses and relays with meter and all looks fine (also i checked the relays below the steering wheel). Finally, I went to dealer try to fix the problems, but they told me my car is fine!!!! WTF. I have been tring to fix my car for a year, and i even took out the DME to solder the board. Please Help

I just changed the speedometer sensor and still not helping. what's wrong with my car????

Did replacing the alternator and the battery fix the rougher idle when your headlights and defogge are on?

Have you noticed a loss of power? Lower fuel economy?

I seem to remeber similiar symptoms in another thread a while back...

Yes, driving at day time idle is ok. But at night when i have the headlights on, idle is very unstable and almost stall. i have to put my right leg on gas panel when i stop. Had the alternator changed two time and the battery is brand new for half year from today. I spent over $1500 now and if i can't fix it within another half year than i sell it.

After all the tune-up, now i'm getting 27mpg. before was around 23mpg.

last week i just received a letter from dmv ask for smoke check. let's see if it can pass it.
