Idle Problems - BMW Forum

Hi,
When I started up my 316 in neutral now i get this terrible shaking of the engine...It's slow to pick up revs when I accelerate but it seems to be fine in the higher gears. When i come back to second/first/neutral it starts shaking again.
Anyone help?

Also, I know my rubber air intake pipe is slightly ripped (had this problem (air intake) with a previous 316 but never this shaking/ rattling)

hmmmm id attend to that rip regardless, you could be sucking in stuff you dont want in your engine (dirt, water, larger particles, etc) with that said can i ask when the last time you did a tuneup? rough idle can really be due to so many things , clogged airfilter, old fuel filter, spark plugs worn out, etc etc

Ya...gonna go buy that now and then bring it into the local garage for a clean..its pretty bad though looks and sounds like the engine is gonna fly into the air
