I recently was in an accidnet in which the day started out with the car acting like it didnt want to leave the driveway by any means, it wasn't going into gear and stalled. Once I got on the road it acted perfectly fine but it was idleing below 1000rpm. Much later that day some guy stomps on his breaks and stops very short my struggles to stop but finally stops but then stalls and lunges foward and hits the guys hitch. asthetic damage bent ac condencer(ac didnt work before) and broken auxilary fan. I changed the nose and the hood soon to be repainted, I have been thinking of replacing the bumper w/an m3, even though there is no damage to the current one. On to the issue my car doesn't have a stable idle never above 1000rpm and eventually stalls. I know the air filter snorkle(holes) needs replacement and is in need of a tune up. Wut else could be aiding in the unstable and low idle?

I dont think i know of any that idle over 1000rpm, mines at about 700 and i think thats the norm. If the cars just ideling rough and stalls but everything else seems fine (more the engine running smoothly) then id say the Idle Control Valve. Quite prone to becoming clogged with shit and causing rough idle. Id say (and one of the first/easiest thing to do) is clean out the ICV. Theres also an O2 sensor that helps with the idle so it could be that, but you'll need the car hooked up to diagnostics to be able to tell with the sensors. But the ICV, thats what I think :wink

I agree... a natural tune up would probably do wonders for you unstable idle... but the most common cause of a jumpy and stalling idle is a dirty ICV valve... there is a write up on it in the general car FAQ forum... take a look.

Good Luck,

Les

I just put in new wires and spark plugs I just realized the air duct to the throttle is ripped wide open meaning the air by passes the air flow meter probably the problem but i might clean the ICV valve while im at it.

Another question should I buy an M3 bumper since the front has yet to be painted? If so where the cheapest place where I can obtain it online?
