I bought my car about 1.5 years ago. I want to do some preventive maintenance, since this 1998 328iS has 110,000 miles on it now.
The problem is: I don’t know if the radiator/water pump were ever replaced. Can anyone give me an idea as to how I can tell if these parts were replaced? …and no, I don’t want to ask a dealership.
There's no way to tell. There is a sticker next to the radiator's aux fan switch socket, with numbers that may indicate the unit's production date, but it won't tell you the installation date. That is, if you can decipher what the numbers mean. As for the waterpump there is no way to tell without removing it. Rule of thumb: when in doubt, replace them.
