So I had my good buddy Matt drive my car the other day while I crawled around in the trunk looking for a squeak when I noticed something a little more interesting. About six inches in from the right tail light and an inch or so up in the plastic from the floor there was a fried wire that had melted a lot of plastic. Looks like there was a small fire, I'm just glad my car didn't burn down. I traced the wire to the tail light assembly and its hard to say for sure, but It looks like the wire probably goes to the interior hatch light, which stopped working a while ago. The wire also looked slightly corroded, like battery acid or something. Why would this happen? Has anyone else experienced this? Oh, and I never found the squeak. I wish my car had a million mile warranty.
Sorry, man...can't help you with that one. I have a dangling wire/plug hanging from my trunk lid that if I try to connect it, I blow fuses...
Totally unrelated I'm sure, especially since it's on an e30, but wait until gotKraut or Starmavin reads this...any of those guys should have something for you.

Not to change the subject but, Phatty...I had that same problem....took me all of 3 minutes to fix....just had to replace a pinched section of wire that goes to the trunk light....

Huh, sounds easy enough! To be honest with you, Yamma (what is your real name, anyways...do I already know and am suffering from extreme brain fart this morning?) I haven't even gotten that far for checking it. The plug is currently unplugged...where did you find the pinched section?
Sweet, a great chance to use a new smiley!
