Does it sound like it wants to turn over or it's completely dead ?

The motor turns it sounds like if it wants to start but the moment you stop turning the key it dies again, I have another question when you do the timing set up between the camshaft and novalis must piston 1 and 4 be all the way up.

Because as per pictures how to set up the timing that i got from bimmerworks
how to do the timing if i do it according to the way they show piston 1 and 4 stops 3mm from the top is that correct???

Yes there's an arrow on the crank and when it points straight up is when the motor should be in TDC (Top Dead Center) where cyl 1 & 4 should be the highest but your belt could possibly off a tooth or so if you didn't measure it accurately with the arrow and did it by the naked eye. I'm assuming when you did the valve replacement you had the head machined and checked for cracks and bought new gaskets and head studs, so you might wanna look into doing a compression test to see if those gaskets are big enough because the head tends to warp a bit under heat from the machine as well as the amount of surface that was cut off.

Hi Ivan

Many Thanks for your help I came right my cam pulley was abit warn out so every time
I set the timing in the moment I put the belt on it throws the novalis out so I had to replace the pulley to get the exact alignment.
