OK I raced a 325is off a light this weekend, I was like OH well I'll get spanked but I got it runnin in my blood... I WON! I don't understand a 318ti M-sport shouldn't beat a e36 325is should it??? It really bothered me and I am trying to figure out what happened, I can only think of 3 things but you all tell me if there is more you can think of, 1)guy had a standard and didn't know how to drive it 2) I have a standard and he had an auto or 3) the race did go uphill and wondering if the weight difference could have played in it (thats the kinda far out one)
anyways help me out b/c this is bugging the #$*& out of me
I'm guessing the same thing happened to you that happened to me with the GT. The guy probably had a standard and didn't know how to drive. Eitherway you won though, good kill.
There is another possibilty.... the guy was not racing you. did he bring the the revs up before the light changed? did he indicate in some positive way that he wanted to race? There are guys that think their vette's beat me on my bike.... The truth is i would rather watch them light the tires up for 60 feet and do a smokey launch than to even waste my time (or my clutch) launching my bike for a 2.5 second 0-60 time. But these guys still think they "won".. Remeber you only win when you are sure there was a race...

yes he reved and I reved back and he said "bring it Bitch!" and we both set up for the launch... I think thats a called a race
Yes.. that would be a race... but sometimes I do that just to fuck with people... and see them burn their tires.. while I save mine... But.. there is a possibility that he just didnt know how to drive.. I would sum it up to that..!
How can you drive a BMW and NOT know how to drive a manual? I think it is the second solution of you having the advantage in that being you have the manual and him having the automatic....

Ok... I will concede that if he said " bring it bitch" it was a race.... what was the top speed before you "disengaged" less than 60MPH? then you could have beat him straight up fair and square if he had an auto.....
It is kinda funny though.... i have hadf my 325IS for about three months and i have not even launched it hard ... I really have to remove that stupid valve in the clutch hydrolyics system that allows for softer clutch engagement.. makes it too hard to dump the clutch and I think it probably adds to clutch wear and tear becuase it prevents fast lock up... it aslo cause me to bog if i dont use the perfect anount of throttle becuase it delays the clutch action.. any of you guys get the same thing ?

I test drove a 2000 325 auto. Needless to say I ran, and quickly! I don't know if it was in a limp mode, or if the autos just suck! But I got on the freeway and it just didn't feel fast! Then again I had just test driven an e36 12 point dinan m3 manual. So my perspective was a little skewed!
