hi all, i checked these forums last week or so to post about an upcoming show in my area, i'm the co-founder of crooked euros, a pittsburgh based audi/vw/bmw/porsche club. today i checked to see if there were any responses and saw some names that made me smile thinking about my 3 years of bimmer ownership and membership on the boards (dtmpower and bmwplanet)
you may remember me, those who used to roam the bmwplanet forums, same screen name, now a different car
when i left there, probably around october or so(i think the board was still up then), i had no idea what i was getting myself into. the vw and bmw communities are suprisingly different. now, looking from the outside, i envy and miss this group of enthusiasts. it seems like mostly kids are in the vw crowd, and the lack of maturity comes with them. but with the vw guys, we have small meets weekly and 1 large one a month, and this upcoming show is promising to be pretty large (we have 103 members + central pa's 100 members + 100-300 from the surrounding states). you can check out our forums at

i used to drive a 1996 318ti california edition, 1 of 100 made, aqua metallic 451-2 with sand sport cloth seats, black canvas cali roof, ellipsoids with lincoln mk8 hids, eyelids, clear front and sidemarkers with clear bulbs, redded out taillights, license plate delete strip, h7 converted fogs, mesh lower grille, black ringed and meshed kidneys, debadged rear with black "ti", pagid pads, bav auto springs, bmwplanet.com decals, intake with aluminum heatshield, underdrive pulleys, sachs clutch, cams, lifters, springs, full stainless exhaust with downpipe, tt cat, removed resonator, bosal exhaust, momo shifter and boot, rear view mirror leds, led switches, and stuff i'm sure i missed. i had to let go of it, becuase at 102k miles, it was on it's last leg. a week after i sold it, the head gasket blew and the owner scrapped the car
i now drive a 2001 vw gti vr6, uni-black with black leather, 5-speed, pagid pads, sylvania cool blue lows, osrams highs and fogs, piaa city lights, blackout bumper lenses, clear sides, jom badgeless grille, completely debadged rear, 20% tint, audi tt antenna, audi tt pedals, gti monster mats, momo anitomico short knob, momo boot, jvc el kameleon, ma audio mpe200 parametric eq (in glovebox), blaupunkt pcci-650 procomponents front and rear, kenwood kac-729s bridged to 300 rms, kenwood kfc-wf253 10" in fibreglass enclosure that fits in the spare tire.
still to install before the show: phoenix gold 1 farad cap, bilstein sport shocks, h&r sport springs, giac chip, audi tt short shifter, autotech 28mm hollow rear swaybar, eurosport underdrive pulley, finished flush mount trunk enclosure with neons, and the piece de resistance, a jetta front end swap with smoked euro headlights and smoothed rub strip (which would make my car a jolf)
i'll be a busy guy these 7 weeks before the show, starting school and all, and trying to run the show.
maybe i'll stick around these foums too, i still have a hankering for an e30 or 36 m3 or a 330ti turbo
