Been browsing this forum quite a bit today and finally (hotmail is blocked at work) I get to have my first post! I have pretty big plans for my car, maybe even a nice wide body like MA Shaw has. It'll be slow going for a while but within about a year or so I should really be able to start doing more serious mods (maybe FI . . . ooooh).



Anyway, I was coming out of the carwash the other day (on the run, no time for handwash) and the car starts stuttering almost to the point of stalling. So I stop it for a second and upon continuing it does this a couple of times. So after about a 20 minute drive (yeah, bad timing) I shut it off for the morning. Upon coming back in the afternoon it does it one more time and a warning light comes on. It's a red circle with three line segments on either side. I figured from the start it may be something like a distributor cap and the light looks like it too. Any idea what it is?

Btw almost last year I replaced all 6 coils because of stuttering, this is a whole different animal.

I'm pretty sure the two are unrelated. The warning light is your brake pad sensor, you need new pads, and a sensor as well.

The stuttering after the car wash could be a flooded DME. This was a common recall issue with early E36's. Read more about it here:

That's a relief! Of course being as obsessive as I am if I replace it then it'll be a performance part. Same thing happened on my first car, e28 535i, did brembos, kevlar pads, and stainless lines and that thing stopped like a miata. I only wish I could afford a big brake kit.

Ehh . . bigger rotors on an E36 are overrated, IMO. The stock rotors are plenty tough. On the other hand, ss lines and better fluid can satisfy you nicely
