I Got A New Key

i got a key and i dont know where to cut it at ive tryed all the hardware stores and walmart

I'm not sure what year BMW started putting chips in the keys, but if yours needs a chip...the stealership you will go!

what year did they start doing that. Could a chip be installed in the flip key he bought?

yup dealership is only place to get that done!

i dont think you have a chip. its a laser cut key which basically isnt cut from machines. gonna have to take it to the stealer, and they'll ship it to germany (or any close by bmw key cutting place) and laser cut it for you. will charge i think, $30? somewhere around there.

hey go to the Product Review section and check out my review of this key fob also the Dealer is NOT the only place to go....in fact they wont cut it anyway so its pointless going there. I also have a section on how to go about getting this particular key fob cut outside the dealership for $20!!!!!

I got it on ebay for $30....check the "product reviews" section here on the Forums for full details...I even dissected the flip fob key itself. Also if you call the Eastside locksmith I think they can chip that Flip fob for you if you need a chip for it to start your car.

What will happen when you get your fob cut, it will work to turn on your car but unless the flip fob is chipped your engine won't start unless you have your original keys nearby (like on the same key ring) or you use your original to start your engine then pull it out and insert the flip fob within a 30 second period only then will your flip fob start the engine on its own.

Last winter I lost my Only key with the keyless button on it. Had to go to the dealer, give them my VIN # and for $120 they had a key shipped to them from Pennsylvania, their closest key place to Michigan. Only took about 2 days.
