I was going to purchase a new bmw, was approved and everything. my payments werent bad, but i have chosen to wait until i graduate from school. one more year!!! but now that i am in this bmw mood i dont think i can get anything else. There are several in my area with 120k and are extremly cheap. like 4000. does anybody know what a normal bmw last to?
straight 6's last a long time. but depends on maintenance like anything else. most people who own bmws take them in and service them and take good care of them, cause they keep resale and will keep u driving in style if u take care of them.
i am 19 and have a 328i. 1998. i bought is about 7 months ago. i take good care of it. and i'll be able to resell for 5k more than i paid.
your lookin at unlimited miles if it was treated good.
but think atleast 180+ from most bmw engines

mine is already beyond 184,000 and is still ticking. Mine is a 4cyl. 1994 318 and these engines spite the fact that they have no power compared to all other models last forever if you take care of them. only cosmetics start going arround this time and minor components. For example on mine i have to change a bunch of rubber bushings due to dry rot. Also, if you're mechanically inclined, these cars are super easy to get in and out of the engine. i suggest if you buy a used one get the mechanics manual on it and even if you don't know how to work on them these will teach you about your car and it will help with those mechanics (90% of them) that will try to rip you off - they seem to see dollar signs when they see you coming in with a bimmer! Good luck with your purchase.
p.s. make sure you ask for all records on the sevice history of the car you want. if they can't supply you with it. RUN FOR THE HILLS!!
I agree the 4cyl in the e36 318 is the same one they used in the 80's for a while on the e30 318. These cars have fewer electronics than other BMW's and are very reliable. mine is at 191,500 miles and it feels new.
