how to hardwire radar

Does anyone know how to hardwire a radar detector?

You need to find a switched 12V wire and use that to power the unit. If the unit has memory settings that go away when it loses power, you need to wire it to a constant 12V source.

Where do you want to mount it? I can better guide to a good wire but I need to know where it's going.

I want to mount it up by the rear view mirror....so hardwire it to the sunroof switch or something

1. Pop out the sun roof switch using your fingernails or a screw driver.

2. Put your finger in the hole and pull down on the panel. the whole thing will come down, but you have to pull hard.

3. Disconect the sun roof switch.

4. Pop out the three lights (dome light and two map lights)

5. There will be 5 wires comming out of it. you want the green one for power.

6. Connect your detector wires as you see fit (solder, crimp, wire nut, etc). Make sure it works, then stick the wires back in place.

7. Run the Radar wire out between the dome lights and the sun roof switch pannel in the corner.

8. Put in the lights and panel back on and plug in the sun roof switch.

9. Mount in front of the mirror.

Make sure the radar detector likes 12\14 volt sources if you hardwire it without a DC/DC converter, or you might %*#% it up. ... or do the radar detectors now a days all run on 12v? (I have this busted one my mom gave me that runs on 9v for some dumb reason)
