Well, on my friend's Audi A4, you accelerate just like you would on an automatic, and shift to the (^) Button (keep your foot down) it should shift to the next gear.
I have what you have and it's a standard regular ol' BMW automatic transmission.
It's an automatic\manual shifting button. Try it. What it does is locks the transmission in the gear it's in and it wont shift out of it like it normally does. There's an excellent feature where it will NOT downshift if the shift would cause it to go over the rev limiter, so you can't 'money shift' with this thing.
It's not triptronic since you have to select gears instead of just hitting up or down.
You dont have to take your foot of the accelerator when shifting but it's probably a good idea to at least try to rev match to some degree, even when downshifting although I don't think you wont mess it up if you dont.
Tiptronic I believe is Audi only..but Steptronic, what you probably have, is the same for the most part.
all you do is put it into that slection on your gear box, then once you hit 3000 or so plus rpm, push the shift knob forward.... to downshift, you pull it back... its sooo lame...my friend has it and it lags like no other. dont worry about it...
plus, you need to be in a certain RPM range to change gears, so you cant do crazy downshifting.
i allways thought that was for rough road conditions and stuff like that....
lets say its snowing, and u hit the "M" and put the car in 2nd gear, u wont get as much power as u would as u would in first, which means, less power to the wheels, and let spin in the snow...
ever try to put it in 3rd and take off??? no power....
