How do you know you need new Spark Plugs?!

Having trouble starting the 318i and I think it may be the plugs since I never replaced them in the last 35000 miles (whiles everything else has been serviced and up kept under the hood).
It seems the engine isn't getting anything at all and just chokes...and whimpers out.

Could it be I need plugs? I just want to know before I head down to the shop...

if you cant remember the last time they were changed its probably time

but they wouldnt be the problem

pull the plugs the condition of them will tell you if they need to be replaced. if the plug is brownish in colour and the electrode is still in good condition with a close to stock gap than you will be ok, if not than replace them.

yeah its definately the plugs. mines look like that. but the mech told me its something else with the air flow sensor or idle thingy...

its been awhile since I looked under the hood.
