Hi guys my car steering wheel shakes really hard at speeds of 50 what could that be?
hI GUYS I'M NEW TO THIS AND IM TRYING TO GET MY 1993 BMW GOING GOOD
I JOINED THIS FORUM TO GAIN MORE BMW EXPERIENCE. NOW I HAVE ONE MAJOR PROBLEM MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES REALLY BAD AT SPEEDS OF ALMOST 50 AND UP AND I DONT KNOW WHAT I SHOULD CHECK PLEASE ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED.
First - Please turn your "Caps Lock" Off... LOL
Between 50-60 mph everytime you drive and is never different...
Wheel Balancing !
If you have all the wheels balanced and this "wobble" still occurs then it is either the Rack, tie-rod ball joint or warped disc...
Hope This Helps (HTH)

thanks i am going to try this and see what happens. i have another question my car seems to screech even when im not braking sometimes could that be my rotors ?
You probably need an alignment, but if that doesn't fix it, have your wheel bearings checked. I had an issue in my 350Z with the rear wheel bearings. The rear passenger side spindle was all kinds of messed up because the bearing went out. The whole wheel would rock back and forth if you pushed on it while it was jacked up. The whole car vibrated a bit when I reached 60 or so. It ended up pressing the Brembo caliper into the rotor causing a screechy rubbing noise at higher speeds. It also dug a full circle into the rotor. Hard to miss if this is your issue. Just jack it up so the tire is a couple inches off the ground and put one hand on the top and bottom of the tire. Push the top, pull the bottom. And vice versa.
I doubt it's flat spots in the tires, since you'd probably notice that at any speed. Could be low tire pressure though.
Just for the sake of being thorough, make sure all of your lugs are tight.
Ya, I doubt a tire would get a flat spot also because an inflated tire would have pressure pushing out. So a tire would get a bulge as they break down and go bad.

This could be either the rotors or dodgy pads...
Jack her up and spin a wheel or two and listen for "grating"?
By this I mean notice if the pads are catching the rotors unnaturally...
If yes then its either a dodgy pad or two or...
Warped rotor.
Pads may need some copper grease on their rears.
Wheel bearing.
Just a thought mate...

i think one of your wheel brake pad need change coz dat as happen to my bmw 3 series b4 and i had to change the brake pad and brake shoes.
I've got oval tires that the Tyre shop doesn't want to know about it shakes hard under brakes and wobbles at 70kph its only two mill out tyre shop is blaming the rims (bloody good years)swap front for rears and see if it gets better
According to my opinion,
actually steering wheel shakes has been a problem ever since i bought my car, the steering wheel shakes at all speeds.
What do you think of it......?
You most likely need a front alinement! and fast. Driving with off balance tires can me very dangerous and will lead to more serious problems. Take your BMW to your local BMW dealer as soon as possible.
