Help-trunk wont latch shut

1998 323 vert
So my trunk wont latch shut, it closes and seems like everything lines up but it wont actually latch.

The metal piece that actually slides over to grab the pin to latch shut will work on a screw driver but wont latch on the pin coing out from the back wall of the trunk.

is there any sensor for the convertible top that might cause this? (the vert top does go up and down freely). oh its a manual convertble top.

If it works fine with a screwdriver then the latch is too far from the pin !
You could try removing the trunk rubber weather seal to see if it works !

Rubber seal is better because it has the ability of elasticity.
