Help! Sunroof Stuck Open....97 318i

Just bought the car earlier today and decided to use the sunroof. It opened up just fine but now it will NOT close!!

When I push the close side of the Switch there is NO noise coming from the electric motor at all. When I push the Open side, it will make make noise (like it's trying to open) and the inside light will dim down a bit.

I'm suspecting the switch is toast. The power windows all work fine, so I believe the comfort relay is working just fine.

Any other ideas ????

Had this happen all the time. Remove the cover plate to the sunroof motor (headliner cover plate with sun roof switch) from the back with a clean screwdriver. Attached to the motor is the gear box with an allen socket (6mm I think). Turn it a couple of turns in the direction that goes easy, it may be in the all the way open or closed position. Now you can try the switched hanging from above. It should work now. If not turn it a little more. The switch doesn't usually go bad. Check you fuse also, just in case. Had to do it a couple of times over a couple of months and then never since on my most recent Beamer.

That did the trick.

Still sticks open whenever the sunroof is open ALL the way. If I stop it right before the end, it WILL close whenever I hit the switch.

What's going on with it ?

Try using white lithium spray lube from a can with one of those red tube things and spray all the moving parts from above. Mask off the interior with newspaper or something or you will get grease all over your interior. Look for marks where parts of the sunroof contact the track or anywhere on the "sill". If it is properly lubricated it should work great.
