I have a 95 320i, yesterday day i was driving, i came to a red light, i stopped and after about 15seconds of idling the car shut off, but the car did start again right away, but it repeated the same thing 4 times....I was driving for about 2 hours today and everything seemed fine...the check engine light didn't come on, but that might be cause the person i bought it off disconnected the light...anyone have any idea what it might be
A problem that is becoming more and more common with the e36s as they age are bad ICVs. Other possible causes could be a clogged fuel filiter, possibly a dieing pump, or a vaccum leak.

How big of a problem is this...I'm taking it to a dealership tomorrow to get scanned...but I just want to go in there with an idea of how much this is gonna cost me, and is this going to be a re-occuring problem...any one ever have this problem before.??
It depends on what the problem is. Vaccum leak won't be too much. ICV if they just clean it should be $140-$160, to replace that plus the cost of the part. Fuel filter with labor shouldn't be more than $100. Fuel pump would end up being a couple hundred.
My friend had a similar problem on a Ford Escort
It was his fuel filter.....no big deal.
Should cost a little lesss then 100 on your Bimmer

damn, no offence or anything, but u guys have to keep bringing your cars back to the dealer, and pay $85 and hour on stupid things, that sux... its a good thing that my mechanic is a professional on benz's, and bmw's.. and hes a good friend of mine, so i get hooked up!!!
Did you try cleaning the throttle body lately? I had the same problem on another car and all it needed was a good throttle body clean up. use a soft bristled brush and throttle body cleaner, don't rub too hard or you will take the protective coating off. Wipe with a clean soft cloth, put the throttle body back and see what happens. I'm not saying it will definitely work in your case, but it's worth a try. Cleaner should be less than $5. If it works, you just saved yourself $95!! Calculate howmany 6 packs that is!!!!
I did this on my 94 - 320i as routine maintenance, and it's not a biggy at all. Just be careful not to damage the little gasket in there. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
