Help a Newbie Out

Hey, I just registered for the forums. I am a long time BMW lover and just got my first one...i bought a 95 318TI auto. I know it's not the most powerful but hey I'm only 19 and in college so its an upgrade from my Civic! I am looking to get a 2K 323 or 325ci within the next couple of months and my girl will get this one- anyway enough intro a couple of questions

1. When i put the car in park it still rolls, or when i rev it it jerks forward!? I asked the dealer and he said the shift know lock is broken and i just need to get a new shift knob. Is this true? I just wanna make sure it has nothing to do with the transmission/engine- I currently have to put the E-Brake on when i park so the car doesn't roll ghead

2. I am having problems with my back seat floors being soaked! Nobody has sat back there and it has been snowing and raining since i bought the car last week. Where could the water be coming from? I'm thinking whatever is under the liner has a hole or something....not sure what to do about it-

welcome tremontana.. question 2 first, have you noticed any other water anywhere else in the car? the seats themselves, the trunk? etc? i have to state to obvious first and that is to check the window and see if the seals around them are good. also check the seems on the doors are they missing or cracked so bad that you could foresee water getting in?

now question 1, i think the dealership is right, last i remember if that is broken, some gears get outta wack. but i vaugely remember it being a problem in neutral not park. if the dealership says this is what it is than get it fixed. you dont want your Girlfriend to forget about it one day and find the car down the road in someones garage.

lol..i know- I am just trying to decide which one to order- i will get a new one right after x-mas. And as far as the water its not anywhere else but right behind the driver seat. I checked all around to see if anything else around there was wet but its just the liner and carpet, they are soaked. I will try to check for leaks but i think its coming from underneath ....not sure

no problem check the undercarrage as you said, see if you have any rust holes that go through, you may need some decent light to do this and a lift might come in handy as well

Remember TreMontana, Water can't run up hill man. Undercarriage not likely. :lol:

not always true bmwpro, if there is a rusted out hole in the bottom of the car, when hes driving in the wet weather there is enough splash up and water flying around that it can go up and into that hole soaking the carpet. but if this only seems to happen when your not moving or when you check your car in the morning after a rain storm than yeah more than likely not a hole

I would look into the door seals, even the lower parts. Water can run down around the door and even come in the lower part if the seal is bad.
