i just got a 1995 318i convertible (thank you thank you) as a daily driver and i'm loving it... but i've noticed the ONLY defect on this car is that the power mirrors dont work and they don't heat up... any clues as to why it's not doing this???
i found this site just searching around, its awesome to find such a large community of car enthusiests. thanks in advance for all your help...
does only one of them not work or do both of them not work?

fuses, relays is where I would start. check them all. also take off your door panel (clips and 2 screws) and check and make sure they're plugged in and or don't have any frayed/broken wires. I'm not quite sure how the heated mirrors work to be honest with you
Check the fusebox. I believe the fuse for the power mirrors is labeled F24, I don't know which one controls the heat. YOu may have bad heating elements. Those are located right behind the glass, which you can just pry out with a tape-wrapped screwdriver. Are you sure that you have the heated mirrors? Just cheking, as not all 318s had them. They were an optio nthat you could also get with the cold weather package.

Also, as with many other things that can/may/will fail with E36s, perhaps the wiring has gone bad at soem point. The insulators wear out, just like do those of your house's electrical wiring. Not a big deal, but sometimes (like in this case) can be a pain in the neck to revamp.
