help increasing HP

I want to increase HP in my 1995 325i without changing my intake. I bought a chip but it didn't work and they told me if mine was produced after January in 95' then I would have to send it in. I don't know if I want to do this because I need my car. Does anyone have any recomendations?

I'm not really sure, but I think after Jan of 95, the E36's started using OBDII instead of OBDI, so you cannot chip it anymore.

You can find some performance shark software and 'shark' it, but this does not yield any power gains (or so I've heard), just removes top speed governor and some other little tweaks.

increasing hp is a game we all get stuck in. intake is the easiest. try some lighter pulleys, and a lighter underdrive pulley. i dunno if the bmw engine has this, but try and find out. these are all bolt ons and can be done very easily!

Correct, your car is utilizing the OBD-II computer. You can't chip it. I has to be reprogrammed. Sharking will give you some added power, but not as much as a chip on an OBDI computer. You will gain about 10-15hp and 10-15lbs of tq. And it will smooth out the power band, raise your redline and remove the top speed governor.

Pulleys would be a great thing, new performance cams if you want to spend the money. Why don't you want to change the intake though?

Hell anyway, the most effective way to gain HP with the intake anyway is to debaffle (refer to FAQ/DIY section) and simply drop in a K&N or Green filter...It will add about 4 or 5 hp and inprove throttle response.

Another thing, improved performance software is designed to work best with intake and exhaust upgrades. So if you have all of that taken care off, you would be getting the best results.
