HELP I need to power up my compact!

Because of my age 18 i have got on to the bmw property ladder at the bottem with a 316 compact 1.6i 1998. i want to make it faster because its not as quick as my megane 1.6 that i had before which dissapointed me! I am thinking of replacing the engine with the 1.9 or the 1.8ti which is the best all round and is this possible? i know it seems the obvious answer is to buy a new car but ive already started doing other stuff to this one and apart from the lack of bhp im very happy with it!!! HELP

Hello- Well if you're thinking of an engine swap then the two most affordable ones I can think of are either the M44 318 motor which would give you about 40 hp more. Or the M50 325 engine which is a very strong motor and probably one of the easiest to get ahold of, and would give you about 80 hp.

turbo or engine swap, i would say engine swap and get some work done on the engine before. M52 2.8 with S52 cams or M50 with S50 cams.
