I bought a 98 328i about 2 weeks ago. I've been showing codes indicating that there is a problem in the brake light circuit. The brake lights work, but the lit dash light and obc statement "brake light curcuit fault" are annoying. I replaced the brake light socket pieces, but the code is still coming up. ALso, the car came with euro/clear lenses all around, and the codes were coming up. So after changing the socket pieces, the codes were still coming up, so I switched the lenses to the stock units (therefore also the curcuit boards, right?). Even with the stock units I'm getting the code faults on the OBC.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks,
Ted
Make sure that in the tail light socket where the holder plugs into the assemblies. If there is any corrossion on the contacts or the connection is not tight it will cause a higher than normal resistance in the circuit and cause a fault. It monitors that resistance and will trip the fault. Also use the bulbs (Euro) constructed with the silver material. The ones with brass tend to cause higher resistance. Good luck !
