HELP--A/C ISSUE

The mechanic called me today said he found a problem while changing the belts. On the A/C Compressor the clutch pulley was rubbing. He showed me that compressor main shaft was loose..(in would move back and forth) he said that was not normal..

I've never had any problems with the A/C..and it worked fine before. Well I had him put everything back together, but had him leave the A/C belt off for now.

Does this sound like a problem...The mechanic said if the compressor was to lock it could cause damage.

Any ideas? Does this sound like shit. ghead

The clutch will move in and out if you push and pull on it. If it moves up and down excessively, it is a problem. If it locks up, the belt would probably break, or it could kill the engine, or go up in smoke....

REPLACE it at once. It is a known problem, not quite common though.

I'm in the process of a complete AC system replacement. The compressor went, and seems to have taken everything in the AC system with it. I've had the car for 3 months. Get it early.
