Alright here is the problem, I have a 1994 E36 325is right. The other day I take it to a carwash and when it comes out it won't start. I tried everything jumping it, bump start nothing. So I have it towed to the BMW dealership and they tell me that it is my EMU computer, that it is all corroded and that I need a new one. I know the EMU is a computer but what exactly is it? If anyone knows if this has happened before, or if you know of a solution, or you know what is going on PLEASE HELP. I can' stand being away from my car.
did you get an engine wash or just a regular car wash??? If you got an engine wash and the car wash place didnt cover the appropriate places, then they are at fault and should pay for any damages they've done to the car.
no it was a regular car wash. They told me afterward that they have had problems with this year and model of BMW's before. I don't know how though I have gotten it washed at other places before.
i'm not quite understanding your response. You mean to say that the car wash place admitted to your car not starting properly due to their car washing equipment?
When they say they had problems with this year and model before they are bullshitting you to say they're not at fault. EVERY business, no matter how honest, will tell small lies to save money.
my friend had the same thing happen to him about a week after he got it. said the jets that push the water, push hard enough to leak through the grill next to the front window and get into the emu. he had to replace his also!
Hi, i HAD a similiar problem with my 320 coupe 93, ( the engine would not start or idle funny) to problem is the ECU wets wet and reverts to backup mode. to solve this remove the wind screen wipers and the plastic underneath, in the middle there is the fresh air in take (which might be full on water!! upto 2 litres!) this water seaps into the ECU compartment on the right (note the hole 2 3rds of the way up) look back to the fresh air compartment, you need to remove 2 rubber drains from the out side of this compartment the best way is to get your hands wet and push them through, clean the rubbers or leave off completely . disconnect and remove the ECU shake the ECU to remove excess water and dry off in the house for at least 24hrs (place it on paper towels ect) then plug up the hole between the ECU and fresh air compartments if you want this should solve your problem if your ECU is knackered you should prevent the next one going the same way. this sorted my car out hope it will for you
Dave
hi
I had the same exact problem and had to have the emu replaced and sued the car wash and won the repair money. Also Bmw has a repair to replace the rubber drains that collapse after time with hard plastic ones that dont collapse but still will clog with leaves and stuff. I would take the car wash to small claims because they should NOT allow your model in the carwash even if there is a sign up( in my case) because they know about the problem and should warn you with a Paper to sign giving you the warning that could happen. I have a 1994 325ic and It still clogs every once in a while under the winshield. Dont park under trees.
I posted this same thing about a year and half ago under a different name that I forgot
