I'm having heating problems with my 93' 325i. For some reason I can only get heat out of my 2 passenger side vents. The left, center, defrost, and floor only get cold air. The other strange thing is the lights on the climate control for A/C and Recirculate only come on sometime, usually when I am on the freeway going over 65 and flooring it. The defrost button works fine. I think there may be a problem with the box that controls what temperature air goes where (whatever it's called). I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
Oh yeah, another thing I noticed. There is a wired whining sound that appears sometimes from under the dash. I don't know if it is related to the A/C Heater because it seems to do it randomly whether the fan switch is on or not. It is high pitched, but not too high pitched, sometimes quiet and short, and sometimes really loud and goes for about 5-10 seconds. I think it may be a valve trying to close, possibly the same valve that redirects cold or hot air. But, I don't know. Thanks!
Update: I brought my car to the dealer to get my oil filter housing changed and my transmission eprom upgraded (my transmission light came on) and when I got it back a week later, I noticed that my heater got hot quicker and heat could actually now come from all vents, but still the fan speed is low. I'm going to check the blower resistor to see if that fixes my fan speed problem. I don't know why the other problem seems to have solved itself though, for now at least. But here are some links that may be helpful:
I've kinda put the problem off for now since my car decided to commit seppuku. Here's my fix-it list for this month:
6 Spark Coils and Boots
Control Arm Bushings
Ball Joints
Trailing Arm Bushings
Rear Camber Arms
Upper Shock Mounts
Valve Cover Gasket
Broken Door Brake
Door Handle Switch (causing my locks to unlock when I lock them and lock when I unlock them)
I know this is gonna sound like I dont think you know what you are doing...and thats not the case... Just wanted to add that the dial that is in the center vent that has blue on one side and red on the other....make sure it is to red (all the way) . this is a common problem to people not feeling heat in all vents.
My 92 325i did a funny thing yesterday. Here in sunny so cal, it got warm yesterday for a bit and I put on the a/c and the damn thing didnt get real cold like normal. I am thinking its either thermostat or freon ......any suggs?

Mine does the exact same thing, but on the opposite sides...My driver side blows hot air fine, but my pass side, I have to keep closed off because it will freeze out the passenger...How much was a new thermostat? Is that something that I could do myself?
