Random question, what is a heater core?

My mom has a 560SL (merc) and the mechanic just quoted her 25 hours of labor on replacing it. That seems kind of extreme for ANY part.

I have no clue what it is.... dumb question maybe, but does my car have one? o_O

The heater core is a small radiator that is located in the heater box behind the dashboard. The 25hr quote is pretty much on the money, being that the almost all of the interior has to be removed, the A/C has to be evacuated and disconected. Not a fun job.

All cars have a heater core. I would agree - 25 hours seems right for a job like that. Especially on a Merc.
